July 2009
Mr. Bill’s Transitional Class at Lake Forest Park Montessori held a penny drive.
With the pennies collected the children voted on where they would donate $5.00.
Each child presented information to their classmates about which cause they wished
to support and then they held a class vote where only one cause was selected.
5 year old Audrey Wilkinson chose “We Keep SCORE” Guild at Children’s as her pet
cause and presented the idea to her classmates. Her cause won the majority vote.
Here, in her own words, is why Audrey chose We Keep SCORE:
“I like that We Keep SCORE helps children with cancer. This money can help the
doctors to help the children get better. Children and doctors can use the cards,
too, to learn about each other which makes things nicer for both of them during
a hard time.”
A huge Thank You to Audrey and her classmates! Seattle Children's was founded
in 1907 by Anna Clise and her women friends who held a penny drive to support
the hospital. Today, a penny in 1907 is worth 23 cents! We truly believe that
no donation is too small. If everyone in Seattle donated 23 cents like Audrey
and her classmates, we would have $133,900 to help cure childhood cancer!
June 2009
The Washington state People Against Childhood Cancer (PAC2) representative took patient SCORE cards to Washington, DC to help explain why this cause is so important and appeal for more government research funding. This was a part of CureSearch's Reach the Day month.
March 2009
Restaurant premiere raised $9,006.40! All event proceeds went straight to cancer research at Seattle Children's.
January 2009
Staff SCORE cards launched at Seattle Children’s. Look for them in our badges and on our wall in clinic!
November 2008
Our guild donated a one year supply of the book given to cancer patients as they finish therapy: Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Practical Guide to Your Future.
