frequently asked questions

» How do SCORE cards raise money for the Seattle Children’s Oncology Research Enterprise?

SCORE cards by themselves will not raise money. The cards have our website on them and we hope that people who are receiving cards will visit our site and care about our cause. SCORE cards allow people to see the patients in our own community who are fighting cancer and we hope that coming to our site with several patients featured will make everyone understand why we think this research is so important.

» What can I put on my SCORE card?

Patients can say whatever they want! We encourage you to use your card for anything you can think of. Tell your story, advertise your events or fundraising efforts, write a holiday note, announce your end of treatment, or invite friends to your birthday party or graduation – anything you want! We want you to have this chance to make something uniquely your own and put a face to this disease. You don’t have to talk about cancer – our website does that! Giving your card to people who know your story or care about you will give them the chance to learn about the Seattle Children’s Oncology Research Enterprise, and that is all we ask.

Staff must adhere to the favorite things survey.

» What will you do with my SCORE card?

Patients will receive a consent form with their order that asks permission for us to post their SCORE card on this website, or distribute their card at We Keep SCORE Guild events. We also ask for permission to share SCORE cards with media outlets. On the consent form, patients can cross out anything that they do not permit. None of this is required to receive SCORE cards. We will never publicly post or distribute cards with patient address or phone numbers.

Examples of how we have used patient cards so far include a display at our auction, on display at the annual guild luncheon, and sending on advocacy trips to Washington, DC to inform our legislators of the need for more funding. Our current plan is to email the person who signed consent for future use each time we plan to use a card, so families know where their SCORE cards are making a difference. Families can always change their mind and request that we no longer use their child's card in our effor to raise awareness and increase research funding.
